Blaze Started Saturday Near Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Site

Firefighters Make Progress Amid Weather Relief

The Corral Fire, which broke out Saturday afternoon near the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Site 300 southwest of Tracy, has burned more than 12,000 acres and was only 13 percent contained early Sunday.

Cal Fire reported overnight into Sunday that the Corral Fire has burned 12,257 acres and is 13 percent contained. Fire crews working the blaze got some relief from the weather and were able to make progress Sunday morning in trying to bring the fire under control.

Evacuation orders have been issued for several areas near the fire, and a portion of Interstate 580 has been closed. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the fire has forced the evacuation of about 1,000 people.
